PAIMI Advisory Council

Disability Rights NC’s Protection and Advocacy for Individuals with Mental Illness (PAIMI) Advisory Council is seeking members from the Triad and Triangle regions of the state. We are looking for young people and people of color or those from other cultures. Personal experience living with mental illness is preferred. Download the application form here—(PDF) (DOC). The Protection and Advocacy for Individuals with Mental Illness (PAIMI) Advisory Council works to protect the rights of children and adults with mental illness. The PAIMI Advisory Council helps the staff and board of directors of Disability Rights NC set priorities, create policies, and decide on actions that are in the best interest of people with mental illness.

Members of the PAIMI Advisory Council are people who have a mental illness, are receiving mental health services, or have a family member with mental illness. The Council must include at least one attorney, one mental health professional, and one knowledgeable member of the general public.

The PAIMI Advisory Council meets at least four times per year. Members also meet periodically to fulfill committee assignments. Council terms are for three years and members may be re-appointed for a second term. The Council bylaws require us to recruit members from each region of the state so that the Council can have a statewide voice. Travel, meals, and hotel expenses associated with meetings are reimbursed for Council members.

If you share our commitment to the rights of people with mental illness, we want to hear from you. You do not have to be a member of the PAIMI Advisory Council to attend our meetings. We welcome the attendance of other people who are willing to share their views and experiences regarding the rights of people with mental illness.

PAIMI is a federally-funded program and, therefore, we cannot reimburse individuals who are not Council members for transportation, meals, hotels, etc.
