In Appreciation of Willie Dawson's Service to Disability Rights North Carolina

WHEREAS, Disability Rights North Carolina ("DRNC") advocates for and protects the human and legal rights of the citizens of North Carolina with disabilities; and

WHEREAS, DRNC advises and aids people with disabilities, their guardians, family members, caregivers and attorneys to obtain and protect the rights of individuals with disabilities; and

WHEREAS, DRNC promotes public awareness and acceptance of people with disabilities as equally entitled members of society; and

WHEREAS, DRNC provides education, training and technical assistance to people with disabilities, agencies which serve them, and courts and others regarding the rights of people with disabilities; and

WHEREAS, DRNC serves as a statewide clearinghouse for gathering and distributing information regarding the rights of people with disabilities; and

WHEREAS, DRNC are "Champions for Equality and Justice"; and

WHEREAS, Willie Dawson is active in both the Legal Aid community and the disability community; and

WHEREAS, Willie Dawson has served on the Board of Directors of DRNC with distinction since March 2007; now

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Directors of DRNC this 12th day of December 2008 that Willie Dawson is commended for his service to DRNC and is proclaimed a "Champion of Equality and Justice."
