It is important to note that Coalition members are involved in this issue because we view it as one of fundamental fairness. While the bill involves capital case procedures, Coalition members do not view this proposal as "anti-death penalty." For us, it is about extending protections in the law to persons with mental disabilities -- the same protections that have already been extended to people with mental retardation and juveniles.
