The needs of people with disabilities are great and so are the challenges. Disability Rights North Carolina cannot address every need. But we can focus our resources to accomplish specific outcomes. We have identified goals and taken aim at our targets!

Remove barriers to employment so people with disabilities can enjoy the dignity of meaningful work

Advocate that healthcare providers use effective communication so people with disabilities have equal access to healthcare facilities and services

Reduce long-term suspensions of students with disabilities by advocating for special education services

Compel compliance with the ADA to ensure equal access to public places

Hold the State accountable to provide a continuum of quality services for North Carolinians age birth to 21 with serious mental illness

Keep people with disabilities safe where they live, work or go to school

Preserve funding for and foster the development of Medicaid services that allow people with disabilities to stay in the least restrictive community setting

Ensure students with disabilities who receive Social Security benefits also receive appropriate transition planning

Advocate for individuals with traumatic brain injury who live in institutional settings to move into the least restrictive community setting

Monitor the negotiations between the US Department of Justice and the NC Department of Health & Human Services and intervene as necessary to ensure an array of services and housing for people with mental illness

Investigate representative payees to prevent financial exploitation of Social Security beneficiaries
